Shield of Sharon

Made in 2011 when I was in Japan, a young lady commissioned me to make a shield light enough for her to carry and strong enough to withstand the perils  of hanging around in a messy room. Thus I created this. Made of lightweight poplar wood planks glued tightly together and then painted over with the limited paint resources I could find and identify in the Japanese hardware store. Since that time I always work with materials I can understand what the label says.

My Personal Armory

This my first steel shield. I made it from a scrap steel plate back in 2009 while taking classes at Riverside Community College. One of my instructors showed me how to chemically remove the tar that was on the side now painted and how to bend the plate to the shape I wanted. Made from 14g steel, this is real shield. I've gone through a few re-designs of the handle and I'm wanting to do more before I start using it again. Since this is my first real shield I feel attachment to it. I want to make it better. When I get the chance I will remake it.
